Sean Flannery grew up in a prominent New York family. He was a gifted athlete and many thought he would go on to a major college and possibly even become a pro athlete. He shocked everyone by following the family tradition and seeking military service. He graduated from West Point and took a position as an infantry officer. He excelled as an officer and found that he enjoyed the challenge. He was particularly enticed after his first combat tour. Once he was promoted to Captain, he applied for SF Selection and passed on his first attempt.

While in Q School he met Sgt Jesus Alvarez. The two become competitive with each other and were never what one would call friends. Sean’s upbringing, West Point and early command experiences had forged him into the model military officer. He was also younger the Alvarez and felt he was better. Both passed Q school and were assigned to separate SF groups. Several years later when Alvarez was offered a team with in Delta, Flannery was not happy. He did not understand that while his model officer persona was perfect for regular Army and his ability to form a rapport and work with soldiers from other forces and countries was a great plus for his work in Special Forces, it did not provide the certain free thinker that Delta requires. This has been a point of contention for him and he has taken opportunities to show up Alvarez. The only real victory he had was when is team had to pull Alvarez’s team out of a particularly hairy situation in Afghanistan. A situation he takes great pride in reminding Alvarez of whenever he gets the chance.

Flannery was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and placed in command of 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group in Fort Bragg. He is up for Colonel and many are sure it is only a matter of time before he gets his first star.
